Core Value Statement of the Department

The core value statement of the Department is to train graduates who can effectively take advantage of the wide variety of career opportunities opened to them in various aspects of the environment in both public and private sectors of the economy. It is to equip graduates with appropriate knowledge to make effective contributions to the development of Nigeria, Africa and the global community having been exposed to a broad foundation of knowledge in various sub-fields of Geography.



Admission Requirements

Students should satisfy the following minimum entry
requirements for B.Sc. Economics programme:

  1. FOUR – YEAR DEGREE PROGRAMME (UTME):

    Admission into the first year (100 Level) in the Department is through JAMB. To be eligible for admission, candidates are expected to take and pass the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Candidates must possess five (5) credits in SSCE or NECO or GCE (O/L) or equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Geography, and ANY TWOScience or Social Science subjects.

    UTME SUBJECTS: English Language, Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science, and ANY ONE of Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics or Physics.

  2. THREE-YEAR DEGREE PROGRAMME (Direct Entry):
    1. Candidate may be admitted into the second year (200 Level) of the programme through direct entry if they have a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Geography or related discipline; National Diploma with a minimum of Upper Creditor equivalent from recognized Polytechnic and College of Wildlife Management in relevant discipline (Agricultural Sciences). Such candidates are also expected to meet the requirements for UTME admission specified in (a) above.

    2. Candidates who possess GCE (Advanced Level) or equivalent with passes in at least two of the following subjects are eligible for admission: Geography, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics, or Government.

  3. A candidate who fulfils normal admission requirements and in addition holds an ND or HND certificate in Health Technology, Agriculture and other related fields, can be considered for admission into the programme at the appropriate level.
