HOD’s PROFILE

Dr. T. O. Abe is an academic scholar and a well–experienced educationist who has thirty (30) years post–qualification experience of teaching and lecturing Mathematics at both secondary and tertiary institutions. Dr. T.O. Abe is a prolific researcher in Mathematics education, with special interest in Statistics and Psychometrics in educational research. He is also a writer who has authored and co–authored twelve textbooks, six chapters in book, assistant editor to College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti book series for Nigeria Certificate in Education and managing editor of Mathematics Journals, Journal of Science Teachers for School of science, editor Ikere Journal of Education and editor-in-chief to Journal of Science Teachers Education, and editorial consultant to Ikere Journal of Science. He has sixty published articles in local, national and international journals. Dr. T.O. Abe joined the service of Ekiti State College of Education (now Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology), Ikere–Ekiti, Ekiti State as a Lecturer II on October 1, 2004 and thereafter rose to the post of Chief Lecturer in October 2014 in Defunct college, Senior Lecturer from October 16th 2020 and now Prima facie (PFQ) Associate Professor. Dr. Abe, T.O. was former coordinator Pre–NCE Programme for school of science, H.O.D. Mathematics, Deputy Director Degree Unit, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies, Dean school of science, H.O.D. Physics (N.C.E. level), Chairman Time Table for the defunct College of Education . He is a member of many committees in the defunct College and presently at the BOUESTI. Dr. Abe T.O. is currently the Acting HOD, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.

CORE VALUE STATEMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT

Based on the philosophy of the department, the department is oriented towards providing students with a broad-based knowledge of theoretical mathematics and more importantly industrial applications. The undergraduate programme is designed to train students in mathematics, and to give the rudimentsof industrial applications. In this regard, the core values of the department include the following:

  • Providing students with a broad and balanced foundation of mathematics knowledge and practical skills.

  • Instilling in the students a sense of enthusiasm for mathematics, and appreciation of its applications in different contexts.

  • Involving the students in intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.

  • Developing in the students the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in mathematics to the solution of theoretical and practical problems.

  • Equipping students with the knowledge and skill-base for further studies in mathematics or such related Multi -disciplinary areas of mathematics.

At present the Department runs a Four year and Three years Program leading to the award of Bachelor of Science (B. Sc Hon) Industrial Mathematics.

Industrial Mathematics

Mathematics is the bed-rock of technological development and therefore of National growth with attendant contribution to human welfare, health and progress. Therefore, the training towards degrees in industrial mathematics is fundamentally geared towards ensuring that Nigeria possesses a critical mass of properly trained and highly competent Mathematicians needed as catalyst.
