The core value of the Department of Computing and Information Science is to produce graduates with sound practical and theoretical training in computer hardware, software and application areas that will make them useful in both private and public sectors of the economy.

Aims and Objectives

The objectives of the department are to:

-Provide and promote sound practical and theoretical training in computer hardware, software and application areas, that will make the students useful in both private and public sectors of the economy;

b. Identify the basic problems of the society and find appropriate computer solution to them;

c. Develop and offer service courses in Computer Science and Information Technology to other Departments in the University;

d. Equip the students with the capacity for professional practice in Information Technology;

e. Develop the students for the purpose of self- employment and job placements in the government and industry;

f. Develop the students through sound academic and professional programmes as a basis for postgraduate studies.

The aims and objective of Bachelor Honours degree programme in Computer Science should include:

i. Create in students; awareness of and enthusiasm and satisfying experience of learning and studying.

ii. Involve the students in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.

iii. Provide broad and balanced foundation in Computing and Information Science knowledge and practical skills.

iv. Develop in students through sound education in Computing and Information Science a range of transferable applicable skill of information technology to all aspects of human endeavors.

v. Generate in students an appreciation of the importance of computer in an industrial, economic, technological and social context.

vi. Provide students with knowledge and skills base for further studies in computer science or multi- disciplinary studies involving computer science.
